HarperCollins has just released cover art for its\u00a0reissue of\u00a0Animal Adventures<\/em>, the third volume in the Little House Chapter Books series of abridgments<\/a> that was first published in the late 1990s. This book is scheduled for publication in June 2017, following the reissue of\u00a0The Adventures of Laura and Jack<\/em> and\u00a0Pioneer Sisters<\/em> in February, as I reported a few months ago<\/a>. I’m also seeing pre-orders for further reissues in this series:\u00a0Laura and Nellie<\/em> in August,\u00a0Christmas Stories<\/em> in September, and\u00a0School Days<\/em> in December. That makes me wonder if HarperCollins will reissue only these five books, given that\u00a0School Days<\/em> was first published as book 4,\u00a0Laura and Nellie<\/em> as book 5, and\u00a0Christmas Stories<\/em> as book 10, and presumably they will be renumbered for this new set. Time will tell!<\/p>\n

Given this revival of the Little House Chapter Books series, I wondered if HarperCollins had planned to reissue some of the My First Little House picture books that were first released alongside the Chapter Books. Cover art has not been released yet, but appearing now on the HarperCollins website is a book entitled\u00a0A Little House Picture Book Treasury: Six Stories of Life on the Prairie<\/em>, scheduled for publication in September 2017 and apparently containing the following texts first released individually:\u00a0Going to Town<\/em>,\u00a0Country Fair<\/em>,\u00a0A Little Prairie House<\/em>,\u00a0Sugar Snow<\/em>,\u00a0Winter Days in the Big Woods<\/em>, and\u00a0Christmas in the Big Woods<\/em>. No word yet on whether Ren\u00e9e Graef\u2019s illustrations will be retained.<\/p>\n

In other news, Caroline Fraser, who published an annotated edition of\u00a0Wilder\u2019s nine books in\u00a0the Library of America series, will be publishing a new book in November 2017 entitled\u00a0Prairie Fires: The Life and Times of Laura Ingalls Wilder<\/em>, billed as \u201cthe first comprehensive historical biography of Laura Ingalls Wilder, the beloved author of the Little House on the Prairie book series\u201d:<\/p>\n

Millions of readers of Little House on the Prairie believe they know Laura Ingalls\u2014the pioneer girl who survived blizzards and near-starvation on the Great Plains, and the woman who wrote the famous autobiographical books.
